Dear  Ramblers……

I am very proud of you for the contributions you made at the 45th International Rally in Sedalia, Missouri, in July 20-24, 2009. We had 368 Rigs attending the rally and yet we donated 546 Quilts-n-covers.  Congratulations to all who participated in our project.

I have received many THANK YOU’S from the 16 orgainizations that received the covers that you made at the rally. The ladies worked hard……We didn’t stop working until Friday afternoon at 4pm……They were taking the small squares and matching them up to make a color coordinated cover. They even came up with a new way to sew our 4” & 5” blocks….that we cut out making a polar fleece cover.  Several ladies made animal pull toys from the selvages and sold them at the Bazaar.  Excellent ….. Working Together, We Can and ARE Making a Diffenence in a Child’s Life.

I have finished the count from information I have received…..The number is…946 plus ….87 donated in September, by Oregon State Rally, giving us a total of …..9133.

Now we only need…….. 867 to make our Goal of 10,000 covers by July, 2010.  Wouldn’t it be great to exceed our goal?!  If any club member, chapter, region has not turned in your information regarding your donations, please send me the information at Nancy2755@aol.com,  so your amounts can be counted.

We will be collecting at the 3 winter rallies….SE Sunshine January 7-11, 2010, in Orlando, FL, Western Sunshine in February 2-5, 2010, in  Tucson, AZ, and SW Sunshine Rally, March 26-29, 2010, in Rayne, LA..

Get busy over the winter months and make more covers….Also you can go to Sales and Second Time Around shops…..and get very good used covers. The only requirement is for them to be clean and washable.  I have had several ladies pick up beautiful almost new blankets at garage sales, twins sales, church sales. We are not asking for an expensive blanket…..If you are buying material…..watch in the newspaper or go on line the fabric stores have sales of 50% off. Of one cutting…..several members could go together and buy the entire bolt…which is approx 10 yards….depending on the fabric….and it at 50% off the retail price. Jo Ann’s has flyers all the time with coupons for 40 & 50% off.  Other ideas…..ask your family and friends if they have any materials not being used and would like to donate to put a smile on a homeless and/or abused child. We have ladies at the rallies that take home the materials and bring back a finished blanket at the next rally.

We also collect yarn, batting, for the covers. The approximate yardage for a polar fleece blanket is 1 ½ yards……but we do make them smaller with the remnant pieces and also sometimes larger….remember we are working with children from newborns to 18 years of age. I have heard some of of you say….”but we donated last year….why do we need to donate again to the same location again?”. There are new cases every day thru-out the USA……

I am working on putting the Thank you’s on the web page for all to read.

I have given you the Challenge for 10, 000 covers by the end of the 46th International Rally, in Perry, GA…..where we started the project back in July 2000 - where we donated 66  Covers..  Let’s show the RV Industry HOLIDAY RAMBLERS CARE IN HELPING THOSE IN NEED.  WE WORK FOR THE MAKE-A-WISH CHILDREN…..BUILD HOUSES FOR THOSE WHO ARE UNABLE THRU HABITAT FOR HUMANITY AND ALSO HELP OUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN WITH OUR SCHOLARSHIP FUND…..LET’S GO FOR IT…

YOU WON’T BELIEVE THE FEELING OF MAKING THE DONATION TO A HOMELESS/ABUSED CHILD….

History of The Quilt's N' Covers Project

In 2000 in Orlando , Florida several women got together to talk about donating covers to the Homeless and Abused Children, when we found out the average age of a child is 9 years old.  I ask them we try to collect 25 covers.  Since we did not want to limit our donations to only quilts we decided that we would pick the name of Quilts-n-Covers.  Thus collecting quilts, crocheted and knitted afghans, about this time polar fleece became popular.  This allowed everyone the opportunity to make a cover.  No sewing experience needed, and they make up very fast.  That year our International rally was in Perry , GA. where we had 803 units attending.  The ladies brought in 66 quilts-n-covers.  From here we have continued to collect these at our International and National rallies, (which are in the winter in FL., Central Southern States and Western Southern States)
